A shady problem – planting for shade
April 9 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
We all have that problem area in the garden – under a tree, beside a fence, in the shadow of a building. Our speaker this month, Simon McWilliams, from Hedgehog Plants and Gardens, is passionate about shade lovers:
“I’m often asked which shade lover is my favourite ….In spring I fall in love with anemones, fern fronds as they slowly unfurl and of course the stunning beauty of the Epimedium flowers. In summer it’s the enormous ‘umbrellas’ of the Astilboides, the tiny flowers of the Helwingia and the striking foliage of Hostas that capture my heart. In autumn I always fall for the gorgeous scent of Actaeas and the stunning autumnal colours of Mukdenias.Oh dear, I’ve just realised I’ve forgotten to mention Dodecatheons and Hakonechloas and Saxifrages!” See what I mean!
Hedgehog Plant nursery are specialists in more unusual plants, shrubs and perennials and will be bringing some along for us to see and buy.
