Sir William Hooker: Plantsman

Our speaker this month is Andrew Sankey, who will be giving us an insight into the life and work of Sir William Hooker.

Born in Norwich, Hooker became a renowned botanist, lecturer and plantsman. He discovered a new moss on Rackheath, Norwich and after a short time in Halesworth took up the post of Prof of Botany in Glasgow before becoming the first Director of Kew Botanic Gardens in London – his greatest legacy.
