Coach trip to Place for Plants – Spring Garden Walk

The Place for Plants is a family run specialist plant centre and garden at East Berholt, which is set in the beautiful Stour valley on the Suffolk-Essex border. We will be having a guided walk round the spring gardens, which should be spectacular at this time of year. Miss Willmott’s Ghost

She’s tall, prickly, wears an eerie Elizabethan collar and appears icy blue in the moonlight. And she pops up unexpectedly in the strangest places. A stunning ghost of a plant … with quite a story behind her: Miss Willmott’s ghost. Of course, that’s not her real name, that would be giant sea holly ( Eryngium giganteum ). Mickfield Hostas – ‘Beware of Gifts’

Our speaker this month is Mel Collins of Mickfield Hostas, a family-based micro business, which has grown out of a collection of the genus Hosta. They hold the largest Plant Heritage National Collection of Hosta in the UK and offer over 1,000 different species and cultivars for sale, grown peat-free, at their nursery, which is open throughout the season in the village of Mickfield.
